General Information

I designed this cutting board with a little dish in it. I strategically shaped it like an almond so I can store my favorite munchy snack there in case I get hungry doing all that food prep! The dish can also be used for sorting out scraps from the usable part of the food while cutting.

Open and Edit Easel File

15 minutes

Open up the Easel file. You can find the original artwork to the left side of the canvas. Use the inlay app and adjust the settings for your bit size and material thickness.

I recommend using Easel’s workpieces (at the bottom of the screen) to manage the pocket cut and inlay cutout pieces.

You can change the depth of the dish if you’d like! Right now, it’s designed to cut halfway through my material. Depending on how much time you want to spend carving, you could probably go 75% of the way through your board material without any difficulties.

Carve!

30 minutes

The depth of your cut will impact how long it takes to carve your project. Mine took around 30 minutes to cut both workpieces (the board and the inlay cutout).

Install inlay and finish

20 minutes

Gently insert the inlay into the pocket. Using a piece of scrap material helps make weight distribution better for setting the inlay into the pocket.

I used mineral oil to finish this board. The cherry-on-cherry colors were much more prominent that way!
