During testing the X-Carve I often ran into the problem that I wanted to carve another shape and needed to change the bit. But I always had to lift up the spindle with the software. SO I decided to make a little hand crank that goes on top of the Z-axis for lifting the spindle up manually.

Let the CNC do its work
10 minutes
Cut out the shape out of a material of your choice. I recommend birch plywood or the stuff I was using, which basically is birch plywood with a black resin coating. I chose it, because it’s black and the machine is black, so…you get it.

Adding the nut
1 minute
I skipped the painting part, because it’s painting and not very interesting.
After painting put a nut in place.
4
Hammer in the nut
1 minute
Just grab a hammer and pound the nut into place. You could also use a vice.
5
The knob
5 minutes
You can make the spinning knob in several ways. I made mine on my lathe, but a dowl with a hole through it, big enough for a screw, will do the job.

Done
1 minute
Simply screw the hand crank back on top of the Z-axis and your done.
Awesome idea Marius thanks for sharing!
